Looking Glass Holographic Displays Now Support iOS
iOS apps, photos, and other media have never been easier or less expensive to showcase in holographic 3D. Sign up for the beta here (coming January 2025).
Brooklyn, NY - Dec 12, 2024 - The hologram company, Looking Glass, has announced that the company's holographic displays now support iOS via its Unity integration. This new support helps creators and companies effortlessly power and run real-time applications and 3D media using only an iPhone or iPad (as opposed to high-powered computers) while reducing costs and easing deployment. Whether showcasing new products in a retail setting or demonstrating real-time content to a crowd, it’s now even easier to deploy 3D display technology or to capture an audience’s attention.
Thanks to advancements in mobile processing, the latest generation of iPhone and iPads can now power 3D multiview displays like the Looking Glass 6" Go and Looking Glass 16". This development immediately supports Unity-built applications that benefit from 3D visualization, opening new possibilities for immersive experiences and enabling seamless integration into applications built for the Apple ecosystem.
“We are at an exciting crossroads where mobile technology meets 3D display,” said Rob Kodadek, COO of Looking Glass. “With iOS support, creators and app developers now have a new way to bring media and interactive applications to life and share them in 3D, with a drastic reduction in gear.”
Enabling New iOS Projects
Several Looking Glass iOS projects are currently underway, including a Looking Glass holographic video player and an external avatar project from the company Gugenka.
- Holographic Videos - Looking Glass’s holographic video player allows anyone with an iPhone 15 or newer to transform their cinematic videos into holographic media that can be displayed in 3D on the new Looking Glass Go and Looking Glass 16” display. Those 3D videos can then be shared with others, taking us one step closer to 3D video communication.
A beta version of this application as well as the updated Unity plugin with iOS development capabilities will be released in January 2025. To be alerted of their availability, please register your interest below.
- HoloModels on Looking Glass Go - Gugenka’s HoloModels is the first third-party app to integrate with Looking Glass displays, starting with the 6" Looking Glass Go. iOS users can now connect their devices to bring their 3D avatars to life on an external Looking Glass display. This groundbreaking partnership paves the way for other custom mobile-powered apps, making interactive 3D experiences more immersive and accessible at home.
