Looking Glass Unveils a New Category of Display: The Hololuminescent Display

The new razor-thin displays transform video into lifelike 3D holograms and work with existing digital signage, CMS, and video infrastructure
Brooklyn, NY - Sep 16, 2025 – After a decade at the forefront of holographic and light field innovation, Looking Glass is now unveiling a revolutionary new category of display technology called a Hololuminescent DisplayTM (HLD) that delivers scalable immersive experiences. Users can now create video, media and interactive experiences using standard tools, deploy content on existing video infrastructure and display it as 3D holograms on Looking Glass HLDs. This means that 3D software pipelines are no longer required to create immersive visualizations.
Advertisers, marketers, and retailers operating in physical spaces need to deliver experiences that capture and hold the attention of customers. Immersive experiences such as VR, hologram boxes and holographic fans are difficult to deploy at scale given challenges around content development, space constraints, and the number of users who can experience it at any given time.
Looking Glass’s HLD solves those challenges. It doesn’t just show the user's video content. It makes it appear present by enhancing standard content with real depth, all on a razor-thin display that is less than 1” thick, has up to 4K resolution, high brightness, and a standard display form factor.
The HLD is powered by Looking Glass’s patented hybrid technology that builds a holographic volume into an LCD or OLED’s optical stack.
“Looking Glass is in the business of delivering magical holograms that can be deployed anywhere,” said Shawn Frayne, CEO of Looking Glass. “Our new Hololuminescent Displays are designed to command attention in advertising, retail, and live environments. They are powered by a fundamentally new technology that builds on our light field expertise but works seamlessly with standard video, CMS, and existing advertising infrastructure. We also still offer our amazing light field displays for teams who need to review 3D depth, or who are advancing 3D R&D or development."
Going Mainstream:
- Eye-Grabbing Visuals: Hololuminescent Displays (HLDs) deliver uncompromised resolution at up to 4K visuals designed to stop audiences in their tracks. The effects can be experienced by groups of any size, and don’t require eye-tracking, which makes them ideal for marketing products and showcasing people and characters while delivering completely unique visual experiences.
- Standard Content Workflows: Easily create content using standard video workflows ( Adobe Premiere, After Effects) for video or software engines (Unity, Unreal) to create interactive applications.
- Deployment Flexibility: With a razor-thin form factor that can mount on walls, and no special software or external hardware required, this display can be installed in stores, venues, theme parks, or wherever standard video screens are used today. HLDs are designed for scalability and simplicity, unlocking virtual space in the real world.
From new-product advertisements that leap off the screen to AI powered digital characters that truly feel present, this display represents a leap toward accessible holography at scale. Whether you're a creative agency, a content creator, or a brand, this new platform makes the dream of immersive, dimensional storytelling more attainable than ever.
