#6: Spare the Fish, Get a Holoquarium

Hey, did you know that up to 90% of the fish you see at the pet store are captured in the wild using cyanide, which destroys coral reefs and kills many other fish in the process? Did you also know that most fish die in their tank in the first six weeks after purchase?

Lucky for you, there are alternatives. The community of hologrammers have created holographic aquariums that keep fish in the water while still soothing you with its aquatic ambience and great verisimilitude to a real fish tank.

Fernando Ramallo and Kevin Watters made a tropical, alien Aquariumthat you can interact with using Looking Glass buttons or a midi controller to change its scene. Otherwise you can let it do it’s own thing, shifting and creating a new underwater environment every time you turn back to look at it.

If you’re more of a koi pond fan, you can check out Holoquarium “Koi” by 3D artist Drew Medina . Not only do you not have to worry about remembering to feed these fishies, you can also change the number of koi in the tank or the lighting presets and make your holographic koi tank just how you like.
